KNIGHT OF CUPS: Destination Inspiration 🏇🏻✨
Updated: Feb 8, 2022
Hello, Sweet Prince! 🤴🏽💓

I would wax poetic about the Knight of Cups Tarot card and how it's been my favorite Court Card in the Tarot since I was a little girl, but that's just not the deal, folks. I picked up my first Tarot deck when I was 26 and all my musings about what tall dark, handsome stranger I was going to end up with had already long since been answered back in 1992 when, barely a sophomore in college, I'd met and been wooed and landed by the suitably dark-haired 6'3'' historian distance runner I would end up marrying, traveling the world and starting a family with. 👰🏽💕🤵🏻
So I don't have some lifelong love affair with the Knight of Cups archetype (although my daughters certainly do), but here's what I do know. This is the dreamy Knight, my dears. When we joke about the Tarot readers that we love from movies, TV shows and books THIS is the tall dark stranger that their client is always asking about and they're always rambling on about. Everything about this dream boat of an archetype feels sweet, sure and sensual. And why not? It is from the Suit of Cups (relationships, the element water.) It's that delicious e. It is, in essence, the seductive lower lip of the Tarot deck. Let's take a bite, shall we? 🍎🐍
My original Knight of Cups. Behold, young Leo!
The Knight of Cups Tarot Card Meaning ♘
When this Knight (or any Knight for that matter) shows up in your reading, we know that something is on the move, is ready to get going or is already in a full-on gallop in your emotional life and/or relationships. Whether you are ready for it or not, you're embarking upon a journey whose beginning, middle, and end are driven by the energy of the heart space. It might be a bit of a roller coaster ride, or if your Jupiter placements are kissed by the goddess, slow and easygoing. And this rollercoaster isn't just exciting, it's emo af! And in the best possible way, because the Knight of Cups is truly the dreamiest Knight. He/She/They feels fluid, maybe even a little warm. Y'all remember Doctor McDreamy?
Up Close and Personal 🔍😍
Again, I call your attention back to Captain Dreamboat here on his romantic steed. It epitomizes the idea and personification of pure, raw love coming towards you. Our Knight with his arms, extended in a strong yet vulnerable way, is often what gets us excited when he appears in a reading. Now, fair warning. In my muggle work, I spent almost two decades working very closely with women who were in the process of liberating themselves from very dysfunctional, chaotic, harmful, and sometimes virulently toxic relationships. So in love readings, I look a little askance at the Knight of Cups, just like a good auntie should. Why? because I know how good some abusers and narcissists are at love bombing. So as the reader, I have to ask or assess if a querent is at risk of being emotionally flooded by McDreamy here? So in love work, depending on my client's desires, I have to be a little reserved and distant with Sir Jawline and his prancing steed because it's so easy to get seduced by the seductive, mesmerizing (this card is associated with hypnotic, tractor beams for eyes Scorpio) visage that this knight presents in general and readings. But when we're talking about its usefulness for women? Especially creators, makers, artists and entrepreneurs? 👩🏽🎨✨ 👩🏻🍳 ✨👩🏼🏫
🔥💥 Inspiration Ignition 🔥💥
Well, now we're talking! Now I've got a task I can sink my teeth into as a Tarot reader and diviner. Let's jump into how this Knight can be very, very, very useful when it comes to adding light saber-like glow to our inspiration and supercharging our intention setting and dream seed sowing for 2022. This is your love guide to igniting your inspiration.
💓 Your Heartfelt Ride with the Knight of Cups 💓
One of the best ways to begin working with the energy of the Knight of Cups is to simply check out his steez. Go to your tarot deck, pull out the Knight of Cups Tarot card, and take a long hard look. Trust me, you'll enjoy it.. So, what hat do we see we see?

In profile, we see a figure astride a white horse-the Knight in Shining Armor Disney has been gaslighting us with for almost a century. In the Radiant Rider Waite deck, Romeo is wearing a tunic embroidered with beautiful red goldfish and flowing blue waves of water. The White Horse that the Knight of Cups rides represents the innocence and purity of the energy that propels her, prancing, forward. The Knight holds a beautiful golden chalice in her hands. What I love most and always notice first, is the way she's holding it right in front of her heart space. Our Knight is focused on this cupful of emotion, but also seems to gaze just a bit over the cup's lip, off to the horizon. It's as if the figure is vaguely interested in where his desire is leading him.
Thirsty? 💦 💦 💦
In the background, we see a dry, cavernous landscape and there's a slowly but seductively curving river flowing through the scene. The sky in the background is a cloudless flash of azure. But you know what's most interesting about the card's landscape? Notice how parched and dry it is. Whatever the Knight of Cups brings, it's coming to quench your emotional thirst for love, depth and spiritual connection. So if you are trying to ignite a creative journey that will result in creation, a product, or the attainment of a goal, then the Knight of Cups can lead you there. They bear that first deep gulp of cold water for which a thirsty soul (or audience, community, or any target population, etc)is longing.
What's in my cup? 🚰
💚💚💚💚 Heart Chakra Connection
If you've ever asked yourself, I know I have something valuable to bring, but what is it?" I encourage you to use this card for a meditative journey. Especially if, like a good mystic/spiritualist/hoodoo you're meditating to investigate and explore what has a hold on you emotionally? Or if you want to figure what it is that you actually love doing. No matter how you go after it, the thrust of this card is that the Universe is urging you to explore the intimacy of being emotionally connected and engaged. That's how you can use it to help you ignite and harness the energetic white horse of your inspiration, connect it to your heart space so that it can hyperdrive your success and fulfillment in the new year.
Oh, YES! ✅
And before you even ask, the question is YES! Take this card and this invitation to explore emotional connection, magick and heart alignment to the mundane. Let the Knight of Cups lead you to discover the ways you want (and deserve, mind you) to fall in love with your day-to-day work. What it is you that you truly want to do in this life? And even more, the Knight of Cups prompts you to have to answer this very difficult question that I think few people ever truly dig in on. And that is, "Why are you wasting time on something that you truly don't care about?"
Passion + Purpose + Spirit + FULFILLMENT
Scores of women, especially those of us that are thinking about what our next chapter going to be like now that we've launched the kiddos, nailed the career path, and are ready to cruise into the harbor of midlife, that could use a ride on the Good Ship McDreamy. Not like that, y'all! 😜, but I mean a good long conversation with ourselves about what we truly care about and want to be vulnerable with instead of what we're "good" at. The Knight of Cups can help us discover, what one of my favorite teachers once very wisely described as the problem you have fallen in love with, and lowkey, are borderline obsessed with. It's so important to know what that is and how and why it touches your unique heart space. Just start asking questions. What is it that's in the Knight of Cups...well, cup! Is it a group of people? Is it a cause?
The problem that I'm obsessed with is intimate partner violence, helping women spark the liberation sequence that will ultimately lead them out of bonds of abusive relationships and toxic environments and on towards personal and spiritual freedom. That's what I care about. I think about survivors like my mother and my paternal Grandmother Halicue every single day. I think about how simply picking up a Tarot deck helped me begin to investigate my own inner universe, connect to my own intuitive gifts and help me find yet another avenue, however esoteric and currently untraditional (because Tarot, oracles, consultation with seers, and wise women used to be universally traditional) assist my sisterwomenfriends in their liberation and healing journeys.
If You Build it...
Believe it or not, that is what moves and inspires me even as I build out my Tarot business today. Because I know at least at minimum, a quarter, and at most half of the women that are within the reach of my voice on Clubhouse and my podcast, face on Instagram and or even across from me at my reading table, are currently or have been, at some point in their lives, trapped in the grips of an emotionally, physically, mentally abusive or sexually coercive relationship. Pretty deep, I know. But what can I say? This is the community that I fell in love with and that I go to with my whole heart in my hands, I took that purpose and married it to my passion, what I love: Tarot and intuitive and divinatory arts. Because I believe that portal out of the hell abuse is opened at that divine intersection. This is why I encourage us to use the Knight of Cups to ask the question, what do we care about? Because that's what's going to move us forward with any level of success and fulfillment. That's where we should fix our gaze. That is our chalice, and on our journey, we are the Knight of Cups.
The Tarot Journal 📔✍️
6 channeled journaling questions to supercharge your inspiration journey with the Knight of Cups.
Where is my heart connected? And how can I be a helper in that space?
How can I become the person who has the highest spiritual intentions?
What is my sacred quest and where shall it lead?
What do I need in order to begin this adventure of love?
What is my highest spiritual intention?
How can I more bravely open my heart to love?
You can even take these questions, assign them to a tarot card and create your own tarot card spread. If I were creating one, I would use a chalice shaped formation.
My final message is this: take courage! The thing that maybe you love seems so out of sync with what it is you're good at. If you love sewing, are trained as a lawyer and are obsessed with upcycling, I promise you, there's a way for you to bring those aspects of unique self in a way that aligns with your soul, makes use of your mental skills and serves the greater good. You can can combine all that and offer it in service to a community that you care about. Enjoy this dance with the Prince...uh, I mean Knight of Cups.
